Council Tax Energy Bill Rebate Update

Date Released - 30/05/2022

The one-off £150 Council Tax Energy Bill Rebate payment has now been made to approximately 61,000 Tameside residents who pay Council Tax by Direct Debit.

Letters have now been sent out to over 32,000 residents who do not pay by Direct Debit inviting applications for the rebate. The application is live on the council website at www.tameside.gov.uk/counciltaxenergyrebate

Completing the application form online is quick and easy. But if you are unable to access the online form and don’t have any family or friends to support you, please call our Council Tax team on 0161 342 2015 and they will be happy to advise and support you accessing the payment. The payment can be made into bank accounts or credited to Council Tax accounts. When a payment is requested into a bank account, verification and an ID check must be undertaken before the payment is made. A notification will be sent to recipients to confirm the payment has been made.

Tameside Council First Deputy Cllr Jacqueline North, who is responsible for Finance, Resources and Transformation, said: : ”As the cost of living rises getting this payment to our residents quickly is one way we can support households during this difficult time.

‘’The application is simple and easy for people to complete. If you cannot access the application online, there is help and support available.’’

All eligible residents will have the opportunity to receive the payment. If households don’t apply the payment will automatically be credited to their council tax account after August.

To receive the mandatory one-off £150 Council Tax Energy Bill Rebate payments the household must be in Council Tax Property Band A-D. This property must be the sole or main residence, no second homes, non-permanent residence, unoccupied property or local authority/corporate body will be eligible for the payment. Eligibility is based on the person being the Council Tax payer as of April 1 2022.
